On Sunday I came to the realization that nothing in the quest to become a nurse has been easy thus far. I was not expecting things to be handed to be on a silver platter, but throw me a freaking bone here! It's been a long journey; applications, more applications, conversations with people who should not be permitted to answer questions pertaining to nursing programs because they don't know the answers, hoops, hurdles, rings of fire, etc.
Anyway, the latest chapter involves me joining the ranks of working Americans once again. However, my CNA license is no longer sufficient, and of course now a CNA 2 is required for me to get said job. So I make my phone calls, send my e-mails, do all I can do to get this class done as soon as possible. Seems the only option is a one day class held at Tillamook County General Hospital. Fantastic. So I set my alarm which is seldom used, for 4:30am and drag myself chai in hand, to the cheese/bovine capital of Oregon.
First of all, I don't so much enjoy driving in the dark, or the rain, but I manage. When it's dark, raining, and 5:00am things get tricky. After almost obliterating a raccoon family crossing the road at the pass of the coast range, and acting as pace car for an impatient log truck, I made it to the 101. When I reached Lincoln city the morning light began to creep in, and on the drive to Tillamook I felt like I was a character in the Twilight saga. The clouds, the drizzle, the fog, the forests, the small eerie little towns. I might as well have been in Forks, Wa. I'm telling you. It was surreal...
Went to class, learned how to catheterize, suction, poke, prick, test, monitor...
For part of my drive home, it was twilight. I would catch myself searching through the trees looking for glimpses of vampires. Didn't see any, but it made the drive a little more bearable.
